James started work in the burgeoning cable television industry in 1981 for Rainbow Programming, selling channels like Bravo, Sportschannel and American Movie Classics (AMC) to cable operators in the Southeast.  Originally a Marketing Manager, he was promoted to VP and Southeast Regional Director, running that office.

In 1985 he moved to Denver Colorado to work for the Father of Cable Televison, Bill Daniels.  There he was VP of Banking and Brokerage running the Northeast Region, where cable tv was born.  There he helped buyers and sellers generate over $1 Billion in transactions.  He also raised debt and equity for networks, programmers and technology companies.

In 1993 he moved to NYC where he opened the New York office for Daniels & Associates.  New Media transactions included CLEC, telephony, broadband and home security transactions.
In 1998 ​he formed Armillary Holdings to operate central station monitored companies, and he initiated the purchase of two public cable companies to form Avalon Cable, which was sold in 2002 for $1.1 B - for 500% equity returns for himself and partners.

James formed the retained Executive Search firm James & Co in 2002, which continues as the premiere firm for high end search in Media, Entertainment, Sports and Technology. 

James has built homes from the ground up in the town of Palm Beach, renovated several late 1800 homes in CT and managed upgrages, decorations and gut renovations across the US.  

James current works with select clients to buy/sell/rehabilitate real estate for both residential and commercial applications,
